The TATZU Concept

Remade Kimono × Modern Street

TATZU is a Remade Kimono brand that deconstructs Japanese vintage kimono and reconstructs them into modern streetwear silhouettes.
Each garment is individually dismantled and reimagined through reconstruction and upcycling techniques, transforming traditional textiles into wearable art.

One of a Kind × Reborn Identity

Not just clothing — but culture worn as art.
A style and identity unattainable through mass production.

Sustainable. Reconstructed. Handcrafted.

About This Item

This one-of-a-kind Obi Armor Long Gilet (Reversible) is reconstructed from multiple vintage kimono obi.

Built on a foundation of deep, disciplined black, bold vertical paneling of gold accents and multicolored obi motifs creates a striking architectural composition. The linear long silhouette and asymmetrical cutting generate a quiet yet commanding presence.

Fully reversible, the piece offers two distinct expressions: one showcasing the ornate brilliance of vintage obi patterns, the other emphasizing a minimal, black-dominant modern mode aesthetic. The structured shoulder line and segmented obi panel construction create dimensional tension that cannot be replicated through mass production.

Where traditional Japanese textile heritage intersects with contemporary street-mode structure, this one-of-a-kind Remade Obi Armor Long Gilet stands as a signature TATZU upcycled statement.

Craftsmanship

Every TATZU piece is meticulously crafted as a true one-of-a-kind garment.

The process begins in Japan, where carefully sourced vintage kimono are fully deconstructed and returned to their original fabric state. Each textile is washed and pressed to stabilize the material, minimizing shrinkage and preserving color integrity.

Patterns are then engineered with precision, considering motif flow, negative space, and composition. With the traditional kimono width of approximately 40cm in mind, each pattern is strategically placed before cutting.

Combining machine construction with detailed hand-finishing, every garment is assembled, refined, and inspected before being released to the world.

Through this process, vintage kimono are reborn as contemporary wearable art — singular, powerful, and impossible to replicate.
