TATZU is a Japanese fashion brand that deconstructs vintage kimono and reconstructs them as contemporary streetwear.
This is more than a simple remake.
While preserving the character of the original fabric and pattern, every structure, silhouette, and detail is redesigned from the ground up.
Because each garment is created from a different vintage kimono, even pieces made from the same design are never exactly alike.

TATZU gives them a new future, carrying their character forward in a new form and presenting them to the world.
That vision takes shape through design and pattern making at the TATZU Atelier in Phnom Penh, before each garment is carefully crafted at our partner workshop.
NEO SAMURAI COLLECTION
The signature collection that gives physical form to the world of TATZU.
The collection includes hoodies, jackets, vests, skirts, pants, dresses, and other distinctive pieces.
Avant-garde silhouettes shaped through asymmetry and draping are fused with the attitude of contemporary street mode.
Each silhouette is refined to bring out the full character of the unique fabric and pattern used in every garment.
The System Behind TATZU
TATZU’s creative process does not begin with designing a garment.
It begins with vintage kimono continuously collected through an independent reuse network established across Japan. Each kimono is carefully assessed for its fabric, pattern, and condition before being selected for reconstruction.
Using the chosen kimono as his starting point, founder and designer Tatsu develops the structure and silhouette at the TATZU Atelier in Phnom Penh. As a professional pattern maker, he constructs every design and pattern from the ground up, preserving the character of the original fabric while transforming it into a fully realized contemporary garment.
Once the design and pattern are complete, they are passed to TATZU’s production partner workshop in Phnom Penh. There, an experienced team of tailors carefully handles every stage—from cutting and sewing to final finishing—one garment at a time.
The creative direction of the TATZU Atelier and the technical craftsmanship of the tailoring team work in close coordination. This system preserves the individuality of one-of-a-kind garments while maintaining the quality and consistency required to develop a continuing signature collection.

THE DESIGNER
Tatsu — Founder & Designer
The name TATZU—pronounced “Tatsu”—comes from the name of its founder and designer.
After studying textile design and garment construction in Kyoto, Tatsu gained professional experience at a Japanese textile trading company. He later explored natural materials and traditional dyeing techniques in India, as well as European craftsmanship and artisan culture.
After relocating to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, he established the TATZU Atelier. Today, working as both designer and pattern maker, he personally creates every design and pattern while collaborating closely with TATZU’s production partner workshop in Phnom Penh to maintain a consistent approach to craftsmanship.
Tatsu previously operated a brand centered on organic materials. However, after becoming aware of the growing number of traditional Japanese kimono reaching the end of their original purpose with nowhere else to go, he made the decision to dedicate the brand to their reconstruction and carry their value into the future.
Today, he connects vintage kimono sourced from across Japan with craftsmanship in Phnom Penh, sharing the philosophy of “Remade Kimono. Reborn Identity.” with the world.
