About TATZU

TATZU – Neo Samurai Style

Remade Kimono × Modern Street

TATZU is a Remade Kimono fashion brand that deconstructs Japanese vintage kimono and reconstructs them into contemporary streetwear.

Traditional kimono such as black tomesode are carefully taken apart one by one and reborn into new garments through the process of
Reconstruction.

Each piece becomes
a one-of-a-kind wearable artwork.

A style that cannot be created through mass production.
A style with a singular identity.

Tradition Meets Underground Energy

The quiet elegance of Japanese tradition meets the energy of street culture.

By fusing these contrasting elements, TATZU proposes a style called
Neo Samurai.

This is not simply remake fashion.

It is
Re-Creation — renewing tradition for the present.

One of a Kind × Reborn Identity

Jackets
Hoodies
Dresses
Sarouel pants

Every piece is
One of a Kind.

Where kimono culture intersects with modern street style,
a new identity is born.

That is
TATZU’s Remade Kimono.

What Makes TATZU Unique

TATZU is a little different from a typical apparel brand.

Key Features

  • Upcycled kimono fashion brand

  • Based overseas in Phnom Penh

  • Participation in fashion shows

  • Integrated atelier and sewing workshop

  • One-of-a-kind production

We are a small brand,
but we are aiming for the world.

TATZU is also a brand that manages
production, sales, and marketing in one continuous flow.

In many companies, these roles are separated.

In this internship, you will have the opportunity to learn across them all.

Because we place strong emphasis on social media marketing and online brand communication, the knowledge and experience you gain here can be valuable in many future paths.

Founder Message

“Japanese culture will not survive into the future by simply being preserved.”

It must be reinterpreted,
reconstructed,
and sent out into the world.

From Phnom Penh, we are aiming for the world.

I want to build this expansion phase together.

— Tatsuyoshi Otsuka
TATZU Founder / Fashion Designer
Thread & Co., Inc. - CEO

Atelier & Workshop

TATZU has both
an atelier and a sewing workshop in Phnom Penh.

Pattern making
Cutting
Sewing
Quality control

All of these processes are carried out in one continuous workflow.

It is an environment where you can learn the full process of running a fashion brand.

TATZU also imports vintage kimono from Japan on a regular basis, and the atelier stores
more than 1,000 kimono pieces at all times.

Black tomesode, houmongi, haori, obi, and more.
From this wide variety of kimono materials, each piece is carefully selected and transformed into a new Remade Kimono design.

TATZU Atelier

The atelier is located in
BKK1, one of the busiest and most central areas of Phnom Penh.

We offer remade kimono fashion pieces, a large collection of kimono, and custom-made services upon request.

Our work is especially well received by international customers, particularly from Europe and the United States.

Sewing Workshop

The sewing workshop is about 15 minutes away from the atelier by tuk-tuk.

Together with a skilled local tailoring team, we handle pattern making, cutting, sewing, and inspection in one consistent workflow with Japanese-level quality standards.

Fashion Shows

TATZU also participates in fashion shows, presenting new value and new perspectives on
Remade Kimono.

Through shows combined with live music and appearances at international events, we do more than simply sell products.

We also create experiences that allow people to feel the brand’s world firsthand.

This approach — presenting fashion not only as a product, but also as
culture, expression, and experience — is one of TATZU’s defining strengths.

What You Will Do

In this internship, you will experience
real work inside an active fashion brand.

This is not just assistant work.

You will learn in a practical way how a brand is created, how it grows, and how it sells.

You will mainly be involved in the following areas:

Social Media Marketing

You will be involved in managing the social media channels that are central to TATZU’s brand communication.

Mainly using Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), you will help share the brand with the world.

Examples of tasks include:

  • Planning social media content

  • Writing captions and copy

  • Researching hashtags for overseas audiences

  • Analyzing post performance

  • Researching reactions from international users

Social media is one of the most important tools for brand growth today.
You will gain hands-on experience by working with a real brand account.

Shopify Store Operations

TATZU sells products globally through its online store on Shopify.

In this internship, you may be involved in:

  • Improving product pages

  • Refining product descriptions

  • Researching SEO keywords

  • Suggesting improvements to site flow

  • Improving UI from an international customer perspective

  • Supporting blog content management

You will learn how an online store connects directly to sales and how e-commerce operations function in practice.

Content Creation

You will also be involved in creating visual content that communicates the brand’s world.

Examples include:

  • Product photography

  • Social media photo shoots

  • Video content creation

  • Planning ideas for Reels

This is creative work that focuses on how to express and communicate the brand’s appeal.

Overseas Market Research

TATZU is aiming to expand further into international markets.

For that reason, research into overseas fashion markets is also an important part of the internship.

Examples include:

  • Researching international fashion brands

  • Researching remade kimono brands

  • Analyzing overseas trends through Instagram and other platforms

  • Researching overseas buyers and select shops

  • Collecting information on overseas exhibitions and fashion events

For example, you may research:

  • In which countries Japanese-inspired fashion has stronger demand

  • What price range may work best

  • What kinds of shops may be a good fit for the brand

This research will help shape future brand strategy.

Exhibition Marketing

You may also be involved in exhibition and event strategy designed to expand the brand.

Examples include:

  • Researching overseas exhibitions

  • Proposing ideas for exhibition strategy

  • Planning promotional campaigns for exhibitions

  • Analyzing marketing results after events

This gives you exposure to real marketing activities focused on expanding a brand.

Brand Operations Support

In addition, you may take part in a variety of tasks related to overall brand operations.

Examples include:

  • Participating in marketing meetings

  • Assisting with overseas market research

  • Connecting with local creators

Because TATZU is a small brand, you can learn the reality of brand operations up close.

Your Ideas Are Welcome

At TATZU, we actively value ideas from interns.

This may include:

  • Social media ideas

  • Marketing ideas

  • Content ideas

If an idea is good, it may actually be reflected in the brand’s operations.

This is not just about doing tasks.
It is an environment where you can experience what it feels like to
help build and grow a brand together.

What You Will Gain

  • Social media marketing experience

  • SEO / Shopify operational experience

  • Overseas fashion brand experience

  • Brand thinking / entrepreneurial perspective

  • Experience in an environment where you can use English

This is not just something to put on a resume.

It is for people who genuinely want to take on a challenge.

In this internship, you will not just experience life abroad.
You will be involved in the real operations of a fashion brand.

TATZU is a small brand, but it handles
design, production, sales, and marketing as one connected structure.

This means you can experience:

  • How a brand is built

  • How products are sold

  • How social media and SEO affect sales

These are real business flows that are often difficult to see inside larger companies, where departments are separated.

For those who want to:

  • Work in the fashion industry

  • Work internationally

  • Build their own brand in the future

this can be an extremely valuable experience.

  • People interested in fashion and creative work

  • People who want to be involved in building a brand

  • People who can think and take action independently

What matters more than experience is
energy, curiosity, and a willingness to take on challenges.

Because this is a small brand, each person is expected to think independently and take initiative.

This environment suits people who enjoy stepping away from fixed rails and taking on something new.

No prior experience in the fashion industry is necessary.

What matters is:

  • Loving fashion

  • Wanting to challenge yourself overseas

  • Being interested in brand building

  • Being willing to think and act independently

You do not need to be able to do everything from the beginning.

By participating in real brand operations, you can gradually learn and grow.

About English

English is widely used in Phnom Penh, but
perfect English is not required for this internship.

Life in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia and one of the fastest-growing cities in Southeast Asia.

Many foreigners live here, and English is widely used in many places, making it a relatively comfortable city even for those experiencing overseas life for the first time.

Cafe culture is well developed, and the city is full of stylish cafes and restaurants.

At the riverside, you can enjoy beautiful sunsets and also feel the relaxed atmosphere that is unique to Southeast Asia.

Phnom Penh also has the following features:

  • The cost of living is generally lower than in Japan

  • USD is widely used

  • There are many international restaurants

  • There is an active entrepreneurial community

  • Fashion and art activities are vibrant

  • It is easy to connect with other foreigners

  • The city has youthful energy

  • The climate is warm throughout the year

A city where urban energy and a more relaxed sense of time coexist.
That is part of Phnom Penh’s charm.

Living in Cambodia: Clothing, Food, and Housing

Living abroad may feel uncertain at first.

Here is a simple overview of daily life in Cambodia from the perspectives of
clothing, food, and housing.

Clothing (Climate and What to Wear)

Cambodia has a warm climate year-round, and daytime temperatures often reach around 30°C. It is generally hot and humid.

For that reason, light and breathable clothing is the standard.

Cotton and linen are especially comfortable, and daily life often feels similar to summer in Japan.

Because the sun is strong, hats and sunglasses are useful.

Traditional local textiles such as kroma and sarong are also part of Cambodian daily life, while in the cities casual clothing such as T-shirts and jeans is common, so it does not feel drastically different from Japan.

Since many indoor spaces use air conditioning, a light outer layer is also useful.

Food (Daily Food Environment)

Rice is the staple food in Cambodia, and many dishes are made with fish, vegetables, and meat. The overall flavor profile is often relatively light.

Representative dishes include Amok, a coconut curry with fish, and Prahok, a fermented fish paste.

Spices are often milder than people expect, and many dishes are considered easy for Japanese people to enjoy.

Because many foreigners live in Phnom Penh, there are also plenty of Japanese restaurants, cafes, and international restaurants.

You can find:

Japanese food
Italian food
Thai food
Vietnamese food
Korean food

and many other options.

There are also Japanese supermarkets and imported grocery stores where you can buy Japanese food products and daily items.

Housing (Living Environment)

Phnom Penh has been developing rapidly in recent years, and there are many apartments and hotels for foreigners.

Many accommodations include essential facilities such as:

Wi-Fi
Air conditioning
Hot showers

which makes life relatively comfortable for Japanese residents.

Some hotel-style accommodations also include:

Gym
Pool
Restaurant

which can be convenient for longer stays.

From guesthouses to serviced apartments, there are many options depending on your budget.

Cambodia Culture

Cambodia is also a country with deep cultural appeal.

It is known for:

Angkor Wat, a World Heritage Site
Apsara dance, a traditional classical performance
Rich natural beauty

Cambodia is a country in Southeast Asia blessed with rich history, culture, and natural beauty.

In recent years, its economy has continued to grow, and new business and urban development have been expanding, especially around Phnom Penh.

1. Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is the symbol of Cambodia and one of the most famous World Heritage sites in the world.

Built in the 12th century, it is known for its grand architecture and detailed carvings, attracting visitors from around the world.

One of its most iconic views is at sunrise, when the silhouette of the temple and the morning sky create a truly unforgettable scene.

2. Siem Reap

Siem Reap is the gateway city to Angkor Wat.

It is an international town full of visitors from around the world, with lively night markets, cafes, and restaurants that reflect the vibrant atmosphere of Southeast Asia.

3. Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is the capital city of Cambodia and the base of TATZU.

With more high-rise buildings, shopping malls, cafes, and restaurants appearing in recent years, it has become one of the most energetic cities in Southeast Asia.

4. Tonle Sap Lake

Tonle Sap Lake is the largest lake in Southeast Asia and is known for its rich ecosystem and natural beauty.

Floating villages around the lake allow visitors to experience traditional Cambodian ways of life.

5. Traditional Cambodian Culture

Cambodia has a deep cultural heritage shaped over a long history.

One of its most iconic traditions is
Apsara dance, known for its graceful and elegant movements.

Cambodian people are also known for being warm and friendly, including toward foreigners.

Cambodia is a country where history, culture, and nature coexist.

It is not only a tourist destination but also a country that is still growing, where you can feel both urban energy and the softer rhythm of Southeast Asia.

Experiencing life here and encountering a different culture can broaden your perspective in a meaningful way.

Cambodia and Japan

Cambodia is widely known as a country that is very friendly toward Japan.

In daily life, you may often find that Cambodian people are warm and welcoming toward Japanese people.

This is rooted in the long-standing friendship between Japan and Cambodia.

Japan has supported Cambodia for many years in areas such as postwar reconstruction, infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

At the same time, Japanese companies have expanded into Cambodia, and exchanges between people in both countries have continued to grow.

There is also strong interest in Japanese culture in Cambodia, including:

Anime
Manga
Japanese food
Fashion

Many young people are interested in learning Japanese, and some hope to work or study in Japan.

Because of this background, Cambodia often feels relatively approachable and familiar for Japanese people.

Safety in Cambodia

Many people understandably feel concerned about safety when thinking about living abroad.

Cambodia is often considered one of the calmer countries in Southeast Asia, and many foreigners live in Phnom Penh.

The city has many cafes, restaurants, and shopping malls, and in everyday life, there are relatively few situations where you would feel major insecurity.

That said, as in any country, basic precautions are still necessary.

Examples of petty crime include:

Pickpocketing
Bag theft
Motorbike snatching

For that reason, it is important to be careful with valuables such as smartphones and bags.

It is also best to avoid walking alone late at night or moving through dark areas, and to use reliable transportation whenever possible.

In Phnom Penh, ride-hailing apps such as Grab are widely used, making transportation relatively safe and convenient.

TATZU also provides practical guidance after arrival so that interns can settle in more smoothly, including:

Living areas
Transportation methods
Daily precautions

As long as you follow basic safety habits, Phnom Penh can be a very attractive place to experience overseas life.

Overseas Life Support

To help those who are new to overseas life feel more comfortable, we provide basic support after arrival.

This may include:

  • Guidance about living areas

  • How to use transportation such as Grab

  • Local SIM card setup

  • Basic daily life information

Phnom Penh is home to many foreigners and is generally a relatively manageable city to live in.

There may be some uncertainty at first, but most people adapt to the environment quite quickly.
